Hmm I don't remember. I believe it is a space game and it was shown on AdventureGammers.com. The Background artist obviously like Curse of Monkey Island because there are a lot of other things that our similar to it in that game as well.
I am glad to see my art has inspired people. Sorry if I sounded too critical. I actually think the game looks very good. I have game design and art for a similar game, but the art style is a bit different, not sure people will like it actually. But that is way down the road. Good luck with your game!
Craziness! Bill's Monkey Island is the _only_ Monkey Island. Heavens, what body parts I wouldn't give to get a remastered (not remade) CMI. I still have my box in near mint condition and have not had a machine capable of playing mp3s that didn't have some or all of Michael Land's soundtrack that I got from the ScummBAR. I would love a super high res of your ScummBAR wallpaper.
Its hard to say if they are inspired or there is no other option to make it different. Top down look is specific for all maps overview, its hard to imagine map from side view. And of course, cartoon style is very similar to each other in most of the cases...
For anybody that played CMI in their formative years it's near impossible not to be influenced by it's art style. To this day I have to fight the urge to paint a spiral into every cloud I illustrate!
Interesting the influences!.What game is that above picture from?

ReplyDeleteIt's from the upcoming Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit of a pale immitation really as although it copies elements of your original, the new one's composition is pretty weak
ReplyDeleteIt isn't too bad. I think it a bit busy in some places, but good in other. And their PR art is really nice.
ReplyDeleteHi Bill, We're really glad to see you've noticed the game and like it :)
ReplyDeleteThe art was certainly inspired by Curse of Monkey Island!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words Bill, and Merry Christmas from Cateia Games in Croatia, Europe!
ReplyDeleteBill why do not you made a nice Monkey Island 5
ReplyDeletePlease, no! I love Bill's art but I don't like his view of the Monkey Island universe in general. I'm more for a realistic, less deformed style.
